xAI unveils Grok Voice Think Fast 1.0, a voice agent designed for customer support in real-world conditions
xAI releases Grok Voice Think Fast 1.0, a voice agent beating Gemini 3.1 Flash Live and GPT Realtime 1.5 on the Tau Voice Bench for customer support.
xAI is opening access to Grok Voice Think Fast 1.0, an agent voice model specifically positioned for customer support use cases in noisy environments. The target is explicit: call centers and multi-step workflows where competing voice models falter in the face of background noise, accents, interruptions, and tool handoffs. A particularity claimed by xAI is that the model reasons in the background while maintaining a fluid conversation, without filler phrases ("let me think") that typically betray an additional processing step.
On the Tau Voice Bench, a testbed focused on real-world call conditions, Grok Voice Think Fast 1.0 takes first place, surpassing Gemini 3.1 Flash Live and GPT Realtime 1.5. Scores vary by domain: 62.3% in retail (order management, returns, promotions under ambient noise), 66% in aviation (reservation changes and complex itineraries), 73.7% in telecoms (plan changes, billing disputes, technical troubleshooting). xAI also emphasizes its training to recognize its own uncertainties rather than confidently asserting a false answer, a recurring flaw of voice agents in production.
The model is already deployed at Starlink for sales and customer support, where xAI claims a conversion rate of approximately 20% and 70% of calls resolved without human intervention. The API is accessible via WebSocket at x.ai/api/voice, with a free playground at console.x.ai. Five original voices are available (Ara, Eve, Leo, Rex, and Sal) with integrated emotional control (sighs, laughs, whispers, intensity variation), and the ability to import a custom voice. Pricing is usage-based.
