v0 extends its Design Mode, between an AI agent and a design tool

Vercel upgrades v0's Design Mode, combining an AI agent with visual editing tools for instant, credit-free interface adjustments and code-level control.

v0, Vercel's interface generation tool, is deeply overhauling its Design Mode, the visual editing feature that overlays the live application preview. The in-house idea: to combine the power of an agent, prompted for structural changes, and the precision of a design tool for fine, instant, and deterministic adjustments, without consuming credits or waiting for a model response.

On the preview itself, a floating toolbar appears above the selection, with handles to adjust spacing and flex gaps, drag-and-drop to reorder elements, and a shortcut to delete. The side panels go further: a Layers panel displays the entire hierarchy, a Properties panel adjusts fonts, colors, radii, and shadows, and an inspector exposes links and identifiers. Annotations are also added: users click on elements, leave comments, and the entire set goes to the agent in a single prompt.

Visual modifications cost no credits, and each application creates a full-fledged chat version, traceable, comparable, and reversible in the code. The mode remains reserved for projects on the latest preview runtime, excluding read-only chats and mobile display, and performs at its best on Tailwind interfaces.
