Three years after its debut, NotebookLM becomes Gemini Notebook

Google's AI-powered research assistant is changing its name: NotebookLM is becoming Gemini Notebook. The application remains the same; only the branding is evolving to reflect its place in Google's AI portfolio, according to the development team, which is still the one behind the project originally dubbed Tailwind.

Starting as an experimental tool designed to help users learn faster, the product has added audio, video, and interactive sources along the way, shifting from a passive notepad to a research companion. Notebooks now form an ecosystem accessible within the Gemini app and soon in Google Search—an expansion Google is highlighting to justify the transition to the Gemini brand.

No action is required from users; existing notebooks and their audio and video content will continue to work, and the stated mission remains the same. The team is promising a few new features, including long-requested folders.
