Targeted retouching to erase objects, shadows, and reflections

Ideogram launches Object Remover, an AI tool that erases image elements with a 27.77 FID score, outperforming FLUX Pro Erase in speed and background

A new Ideogram feature allows users to remove a person, a sign, a cable, a background element, or text from an image. The user imports their photo, brushes over the target area, and Object Remover automatically reconstructs the background, taking into account lighting, textures, and perspective.

The edit is not always limited to the selected area. Ideogram can also adjust shadows, reflections, or certain lighting variations associated with the removed element, while attempting to preserve the rest of the image. The tool targets both photographers and e-commerce teams wishing to clean up a product photo without a reshoot.

According to RemovalBench, Object Remover achieves a FID score of 27.77, ahead of Nano Banana 2 at 31.93, Finegrain Eraser at 34.60, and FLUX Pro Erase at 38.06. Generation reportedly takes about 9.8 seconds on average, for an announced price of $0.030 per request.

The feature is accessible from the Ideogram interface and via an API. The API receives an image along with a mask, then returns the edited version in order to integrate object removal into marketplaces, creative tools, or visual production pipelines.
