Targeted edits in Midjourney stop changing the rest of the image

Midjourney is updating its edit model to better isolate targeted changes, adding prompt-based live style previews and improving seamless --tile generation with V8.1 and V8.2. Its alpha interface is also receiving a broader set of creation, editing, and organization changes.

Edit one area without degrading the rest

Repeated edits could previously affect parts of an image that were not directly involved in the requested change. The updated edit model is designed to isolate those interventions more precisely.

For targeted inpainting and outpainting, Midjourney says only the selected pixels will now change. The rest of the image remains untouched, making it possible to perform repeated edits without progressively degrading areas that were already approved.

The editor also supports V8.1 and V8.2 edit types, while edit canvases can now run in HD. Preview a style with your own prompt

On alpha.midjourney.com, the Styles section is also experimenting with fast models to generate previews on the fly.

Turning on “Live previews” applies the current prompt text to styles displayed in the interface. Instead of judging a style from a generic sample, users can see how it interprets their own description before committing to a full generation.

Clicking a thumbnail then sends the prompt with that style applied. The Styles sidebar also gains Profiles and Featured tabs, along with dedicated detail pages for individual styles. Seamless connections for `--tile`

The `--tile` parameter has also been adjusted for V8.1 and V8.2. It is used to create repeatable images for applications such as patterns and textures.

Midjourney acknowledges that visible seams could previously appear where tiled images met. The updated behavior is intended to make transitions between repetitions visually seamless. Alpha gets persistent defaults

The rest of the update focuses primarily on workflow organization. Parameters currently active in the prompt bar can now be saved as defaults through the advanced settings.

The Create feed moves to a full-width masonry layout, with prompts and controls appearing on hover. Videos once again play on hover, while project feeds gain Grid and List views and an in-place Organize mode.

Archive now opens the complete library, while returning from an image preserves search terms, results, and scroll position. Midjourney has also adjusted the prompt bar, image references, profile and moodboard menus, and navigation performance.

Korean localization, previously tested on alpha, is now available across the main Midjourney website.
