Runway releases Aleph 2.0 and its Edit Studio for video editing

Runway releases Aleph 2.0 and Edit Studio, a web workspace enabling localized, image-based video editing up to 30 seconds for paid subscribers.

RunwayML is enhancing its Aleph video editing model with version 2.0, accompanied by a new workspace called Edit Studio, accessible via the web. The principle is based on editing a single image extracted from the video: the user modifies whatever they wish—color, object, outfit, lighting, overall style, or deletion of an element—then previews the result directly as an image. The model then consistently applies this edit to the entire sequence, preserving movement and details not targeted by the request.

This logic marks a departure from Aleph's first iteration, which primarily relied on text prompts. Version 2.0 aims for more localized control, akin to an image-to-video approach. Highlighted capabilities include sequences up to 30 seconds in 1080p, support for multiple shots within a single video, and the rapid generation of variations—for example, in colors, seasons, or moods—without new filming or prolonged manual retouching.

Runway positions Aleph as its "in-context" video editing model, capable of considering existing content rather than starting from a blank slate. The tool is available with the platform's paid plans.
