The acquisition of Morpheus AI Inc., a lab specializing in video world models, supports the company's Roblox Reality vision. The scientists from this entity are joining the Foundation AI team, their expertise being tied to the goal of a photorealistic multiplayer game. Roblox Reality refers to a hybrid architecture that distributes roles between the game engine and a Video World Model named Super Upsampler, an early version of which is expected by the end of the year or early next year. The engine maintains the world state, logic, long-term memory, and physics, ensuring consistency and synchronization among players, while the Super Upsampler generates textures, lighting, and dynamic details on the edge, such as raindrops on a windshield or foliage rustling in the wind. This division addresses the limitations of world models used alone: expensive, they struggle to maintain a persistent state, strict rules, and true multiplayer, which the platform compares to guided dreams, spectacular but without interactivity or memory. The stated ambition is to enable creators of all sizes to produce photorealistic worlds without increasing their development costs. Nevertheless, obstacles remain, including achieving 2K at 60 Hz in real-time and the computational cost, which Roblox says it wants to reduce before scaling to several million concurrent players.
