Precision Editing Comes to Grok Imagine Image 2.0

Imagine Image 2.0 strengthens targeted editing, supports up to five references, and adds templates for creative workflows in Grok.

Imagine Image 2.0 becomes the new model powering Quality Mode in Grok Imagine across the web, iOS, and Android. xAI is highlighting stronger instruction following, more complex layout composition, improved text rendering, and better preservation of image elements across multiple generations and edits.

Editing now includes several more targeted controls. Magic Wand changes only the selected area, while segmentation allows users to define more precise regions to modify. Background removal can export a subject with a transparent background, and multi-reference editing supports up to five input images in a single generation. Smart Resize can also extend the frame to adapt an image to a new aspect ratio.

The update also adds preconfigured templates for use cases such as product photography, professional headshots, posters, icons, game assets, and e-commerce content. A video-oriented workflow can generate characters, environments, and props separately while aiming to maintain a consistent visual direction across images.

According to Arena results cited by xAI, Imagine Image 2.0 ranks second in both text-to-image generation and image editing, behind GPT Image 2 on the leaderboards referenced by the company. Previous versions of Grok Imagine had already been publicly evaluated on these rankings, although positions can change as new votes and models are added.

Imagine Image 2.0 is available in Grok Imagine through Quality Mode. API access specifically for this new version is coming later, although xAI already provides an API for earlier Grok Imagine Quality models.
