OpenAI opens Codex in preview in the ChatGPT mobile app

OpenAI launches Codex in preview on the ChatGPT iOS and Android apps, enabling users to remotely monitor and control active coding sessions from their phones.

OpenAI is extending the availability of Codex, its dedicated code and productivity agent, to the ChatGPT mobile application on iOS and Android, in a preview version showcased on 𝕏 by @ChatGPTapp. Users can now control their Codex sessions from their phone: launching new tasks or threads, real-time progress monitoring (screenshots, diffs, logs, terminal, test results), approving or rejecting steps, redirecting the running agent, and managing multiple simultaneous sessions.

Inference and the actual work are still performed on the machine where Codex runs, whether it's a MacBook, a Mac mini, or a devbox. The phone acts as a remote control, with synchronization occurring via a secure relay designed not to expose the user's machine to the outside. The integration supports remote SSH and hooks defined on the target machine.

The feature is immediately available in all regions where ChatGPT is distributed and across all plans, including the free tier and ChatGPT Go. Regarding prerequisites, users must have the latest version of the ChatGPT mobile application as well as the Codex application on macOS; Windows support is planned for the future.
