OpenAI is expanding Codex beyond code with business plugins, Sites, and annotations

OpenAI expands Codex with business plugins, Sites, and annotations to help five million users build websites and automate workflows without writing code.

Originally conceived for software development, Codex now boasts over five million weekly users, of whom approximately 20% are non-technical profiles (analysts, marketers, designers, researchers, investors, or bankers), a demographic that is growing three times faster than that of developers.

To support this usage, the tool is receiving three additions. Six specialized plugins adapt it to a specific role without writing code, by grouping applications, skills, and workflows: data analysis, creative production, sales, product design, listed equity investment, and investment banking, totaling 62 applications and 110 skills, with connections to tools like Snowflake, Figma, Salesforce, or FactSet. Other plugins, including corporate finance, private equity, and legal, are expected, with a view to an ecosystem open to partners. The Sites feature, in preliminary version for business and enterprise clients, allows for the generation of hosted interactive websites and applications, shareable via a URL within a workspace, equipped with authentication, and capable of storing dynamic data.

Dashboards, planners, or review spaces are thus built from ideas, analyses, or financial models, and then update as information evolves. Annotations, finally, extend to documents, spreadsheets, and presentations a logic already applied to code: by selecting a precise portion and indicating the desired modification, the user refines a deliverable without starting over.
