OpenAI enriches Codex with Appshots, the 'goal' mode, and plugin sharing

OpenAI updates Codex with Appshots for Mac window linking, a permanent goal mode for autonomous tasks, and team plugin sharing for Business accounts.

OpenAI details a series of new features for Codex, its development assistant. The main one, named Appshots, allows Mac users to link an application window to a Codex conversation via a double press of the Command key. The tool then retrieves a screenshot as well as the window's text, including content beyond the visible portion. The feature is available to all plans on Mac, with enterprise access planned for later.

The "goal" mode, previously experimental, is now permanent. Available in the application, the IDE extension, and the command-line interface, it involves setting a precise objective that Codex autonomously pursues, over several hours or days if necessary, with the user able to monitor progress, reorient, or pause it. Parallel conversations also allow users to understand the work already done without interrupting the main task.

The integrated browser gains an advanced annotation mode for directly adjusting page elements, leaving comments, previewing changes, and consolidating feedback, intended for both designers and developers. Finally, team plugin sharing enables the distribution of custom tools across a workspace, accessible to Business accounts, with early access available upon request for enterprises.
