On mobile, Build turns a prompt into a playable Roblox game

The Build tool allows you to design a functional Roblox game on mobile without coding. How this 3D generator is changing access to creation.

Build, a creation tab designed for mobile, is joining the Roblox app alongside a suite of AI tools in the Studio software. The concept relies on a single typed sentence: a creator describes the desired game—for example, a cozy adventure in a dense forest filled with obstacles—and Build generates a playable starting point that they can then edit, test, share, or publish, without leaving their phone or writing any code.

Build extends Roblox Studio, the desktop creator tool, directly into the app. The back-end, models, and chat history are shared: you can start on mobile and then enhance the project in Studio, or launch agents from Studio and track their progress from your phone. Under the hood, Build utilizes both open-source and proprietary in-house models, the latter trained on a vast dataset of 3D assets and games to produce objects, or even entire 3D scenes, that can be integrated into a functional game.

Roblox anticipates the fear of an avalanche of mediocre, AI-generated games. The discovery system remains unchanged, the company insists: it highlights titles that retain players over time, and a game that no one plays remains undiscoverable. Creations made with Build undergo the same safety moderation and join the same pool as all others.

Testing begins on July 28. Certain features, including publishing, will open in public alpha for users in New Zealand, before expanding to other regions in the following months. During the alpha, access is restricted to users aged nine and older who have passed an age verification check; approved games will be distributed globally to users aged sixteen and older. A basic version remains free, with paid options for advanced usage. Roblox subsequently promises agents for testing, analytics, and experimentation, as well as Cube, its proprietary 3D model that outputs ready-to-use objects, and a future full-scene generator.
