NotebookLM condenses a concept into a 60-second vertical video
Google's NotebookLM now generates 60-second vertical Short Video Overviews from text sources using Nano Banana 2 Lite to help users study on social media.
NotebookLM gains a third video format: Short Video Overviews. From a source (PDF, notes, link), the tool produces a vertical video of approximately 60 seconds that delves into a single concept, supported by narration and educational animations. The engine is Nano Banana 2 Lite, Google's fast image model. The stated intention: to divert vertical social media scrolling towards revision, a one-minute format designed for phones.
This format complements the two existing video offerings: Video Overviews with commented slides and Cinematic Video Overviews, which are longer and more narrative. Generation is controlled from the Studio panel, where a guiding prompt directs the video towards a specific concept.
Deployment is starting for Google AI Ultra and AI Pro subscribers, on mobile and web, with free accounts gaining access later. At this stage, the feature only processes English sources. As the videos are AI-generated (visuals and voice), they may contain inaccuracies.
