Nell, SoundCloud co-founder's 'new medium,' backed by Index

SoundCloud co-founder Eric Quidenus-Wahlforss launches Nell, a San Francisco startup backed by Index Ventures to build a generative and interactive media platform.

Eric Quidenus-Wahlforss, co-founder of SoundCloud and then founder of the bike service Dance, is launching a new company called Nell, based in San Francisco. The introductory message, posted on 𝕏, is primarily a manifesto: "each generation inherits a new medium; ours is taking shape." Beyond this ambition and the promise to say more "soon", the company has not yet detailed its product.

What has been confirmed relates to its funding round. Nell is backed by Index Ventures and its partner Danny Rimer, alongside a series of tech figures mentioned in the announcement, including Anton Osika (Lovable), Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Jason Citron (Discord), and Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face).

Several circulating descriptions portray Nell as a platform for generated and interactive media, to be remixed or co-created in real time, extending its founder's audio journey. Lacking direct confirmation from the company at this stage, this positioning remains conditional.
