More internal detail and 8K textures: what changes with Hi3D V3.0

Hi3D V3.0 raises its 3D representation to 2048³ and textures to 8K, with improved reconstruction of fine and occluded structures.

An image can produce a convincing 3D object from the front while revealing merged shapes, missing parts, or structural inconsistencies as soon as the model is rotated. Hi3D V3.0 focuses on these weaknesses with a more detailed volumetric representation, improved reconstruction of occluded areas, and textures reaching 8K resolution.

The new version increases the resolution used to reconstruct geometry from 1536³ to 2048³. A 33% increase along each axis produces 2.37 times as many possible positions within the volumetric representation. Hi3D describes V3.0 as the first commercially available 3D model offered at this resolution, a claim that is not accompanied by an independent survey of available tools.

This figure does not represent the number of faces in the exported mesh. It describes the precision of the internal grid from which the shape is reconstructed. A model generated at 2048³ does not automatically contain billions of geometric elements, nor is it necessarily lighter or better organized. Polygon count, distribution, and topology quality remain separate characteristics.

Hi3D says the finer representation is better at keeping small neighboring components separate instead of merging them. Its examples include overlapping feathers, scales, shallow engravings, letter outlines, mechanical joints, thin walls, and overhangs. Preserving these elements is relevant to printed figures and jewelry as well as game props and assets intended for close-up shots.

The second change concerns areas absent from the reference image. When a single view is provided, the system must construct the back, sides, and occluded sections. Hi3D says it has strengthened consistency across different viewpoints, particularly where objects intersect or overlap. This reconstruction necessarily remains an interpretation: a front view contains no definitive information about the actual shape of an unseen section.

Providing several images can reduce that uncertainty. Hi3D’s general documentation accepts either a single image or two to four views, with a front view required and rear or side views recommended. JPG, PNG, and WebP files can be up to 20 MB. The documentation does not yet indicate whether V3.0 changes these limits.

Textures can now reach 8K. Hi3D combines this increase with a new version of its UV completion system, which fills surfaces that are poorly represented in the original image. The stated goal is to preserve patterns, ornamentation, and color transitions while reducing defects in reconstructed areas. A creation published on the platform confirms an 8192 × 8192 texture for a V3.0 model.

An 8K texture does not correct inaccurate geometry and may add unnecessary weight to a real-time project. Depending on an object’s screen size, viewing distance, and available memory, reduced versions or several levels of detail will still be required. The maximum resolution mainly provides more material for finishing, printing, or close-up work.

Hi3D compared V3.0 with its own version 2.1 as well as Meshy 6, Rodin 2.5, and Tripo 3.1. The company’s test uses the same source images without manual mesh editing, custom lighting, or tool-specific presentation angles. It shows results across three criteria: geometric precision, structural stability, and texture quality.

The comparison does not provide an overall score, quantitative topology measurements, or a success rate across an independent collection. Hi3D selected the images, cases, and analysis. The examples allow readers to inspect certain outputs, but they do not confirm claims describing V3.0 as the most faithful model on the market. The company has also published no figures supporting its claim that users will need fewer reruns to obtain a usable result.

The phrase “commercial-ready” should therefore be understood as a target rather than a guarantee for every production. Internal resolution alone does not indicate whether a mesh contains overlapping faces, holes, incorrect normals, or non-manifold geometry. An animated character still requires checks covering edge flow, joints, UVs, and deformation during rigging. For printing, minimum wall thickness, scale, supports, and watertight geometry must also be verified.

Documentation for earlier versions allows users to target meshes containing between 100,000 and two million polygons. Hi3D has not yet published V3.0-specific settings or its available reduction range. An asset at that density may suit sculpting or printing, but games, XR experiences, and scenes containing numerous objects will generally require a simplified version.

The platform supplements generation with texturing, relief creation, printable-part splitting, and multicolor printing preparation. Models can be exported as OBJ, GLB, STL, FBX, and USDZ files. The 3MF format is also supported for certain printing-related functions. Connections with Blender, ComfyUI, Bambu Studio, and OrcaSlicer allow users to continue editing or prepare models for manufacturing.

V3.0 is available in the web studio, but its arrival in the API has not yet been documented. The developer model list currently stops at versions 1.5, 2.0, and 2.1, with a maximum resolution of 1536³. The API pricing page therefore specifies neither V3.0’s credit cost nor its processing time or automation parameters.

The launch promotion provided free access from August 19 at 12:00 a.m. UTC through August 20 at 11:59 p.m. UTC, alongside a 70% discount on annual subscriptions. Outside this promotion, the free plan includes 100 lifetime credits, up to ten creations, and three monthly downloads per feature.
