Mirendil, a new AI research lab founded by Behnam Neyshabur, launches with a $200M seed round from Andreessen Horowitz to automate AI R&D for science.

Mirendil, a new lab founded by Behnam Neyshabur, Harsh Mehta, Shayan Salehian, and Tara Rezaei, focuses on a still highly exploratory subject: the use of AI models to assist, automate, or accelerate certain AI research tasks. The company explains it aims to train models specialized in R&D and build infrastructure capable of managing part of the research, engineering, and experimentation cycle. Its discourse particularly targets scientific teams active in biology, chemistry, robotics, or drug discovery, who are increasingly reliant on AI tools without necessarily having the resources of a large frontier AI lab. The team consists of 20 researchers and engineers from Anthropic, xAI, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI. Mirendil is launching with a $200M seed round, led by Andreessen Horowitz and Kleiner Perkins, with NVIDIA among the investors.
