Magnific moves beyond the browser with an app for Mac and Windows
Magnific Desktop syncs projects with local folders on macOS and Windows, preserves tabs, and alerts users when renders finish.
A folder stored on a computer can now become a Magnific project. With Magnific Desktop, the platform gains a dedicated macOS and Windows app that syncs files with the operating system and removes some of the manual downloading required by the web version.
The app was introduced on August 27, 2026, during a livestream hosted by Magnific Chief Experience Officer and Iconfinder founder Martin LeBlanc alongside Sofía López. The demonstration followed the construction of a complete project inside the app, guided by a simple objective: eliminate the repetitive actions that interrupt a creative session.
The most practical change is folder synchronization. Users can associate a Magnific project with a directory on their computer. Creations produced in the app then appear inside that folder, where they can be accessed through Finder on macOS or File Explorer on Windows. A file added locally can also be uploaded to the corresponding project.
The official announcement describes this as a two-way workflow: generated files appear in the folder, while files placed in that folder are uploaded. A series of images, videos, or renders no longer has to pass through the Downloads directory before being sorted and imported again.
This synchronization brings Magnific closer to the way conventional creative software handles files. Assets can immediately join the folder structure already used for a client, campaign, or production. Another application can then open them from the same location without an additional filing step.
The benefit becomes more apparent in projects containing numerous variations. Downloading one generation from a browser is straightforward. Repeating the process dozens of times eventually scatters files, creates duplicates, and separates results from the projects they belong to. Magnific Desktop primarily addresses this administrative friction.
The app has its own tab system. Tools, Spaces, and creations can remain open side by side and return to the same state after the app is closed or the computer restarts. A long creative session no longer has to compete with webpages, messaging services, and unrelated browser tabs.
The desktop version also adds system-level keyboard shortcuts. On Mac, the demonstration showed an integration with Apple Shortcuts, allowing certain Magnific actions to become part of personal automations. A file could, for example, be sent to a predefined operation without navigating through the entire interface. The precise range of available actions and their Windows equivalents remain sparsely documented on the launch page.
Long generations trigger a notification when they finish, even when the user is working in another application. There is no need to return to the app repeatedly to check the progress of a render. This is a modest change, but it addresses a familiar issue with video generation and upscaling, where processing often takes longer than a basic image request.
Accounts, subscriptions, credits, projects, and creations remain identical to those used in the web version. Authentication takes place through the browser to connect the app to an existing session. No second account or project transfer is required.
Magnific now offers two ways to access the same platform. The web version opens immediately, works across different computers, and always runs the latest release. The desktop app requires installation but provides a separate workspace, restores its tabs, and connects directly with local files. The macOS installer is 17 MB, while a Windows version is available from the same page.
Updates are announced and installed from within the application. Magnific has not yet published a detailed set of minimum system requirements or a release schedule on its presentation page. Teams managing several computers will therefore need to verify compatibility and deployment procedures before a wider rollout.
The phrase “local processing,” used in the announcement, requires some clarification. Magnific Desktop does not install the generative models on the computer or make the platform available offline. Files and commands still travel to Magnific’s services for generative operations. What becomes local is mainly the integration with folders, shortcuts, tabs, and system notifications.
The company’s own description makes this clear: a file placed in a synchronized folder is uploaded. Installing the application does not change where the models run, nor does it remove the need for an internet connection, account access, or available credits.
This distinction also matters for sensitive documents. A synchronized folder should not be mistaken for a directory processed exclusively on the device. Any asset added to that location may be sent to the associated Magnific project. Companies will need to select synchronized folders according to their internal policies and the platform’s data-processing terms.
The application does not introduce a new generation model or creative tool of its own. It provides access to the same functions, Spaces, and creations as the web service. Its contribution lies in file management and session continuity rather than any change in output quality or generation speed.
This positioning also avoids replacing the creative applications already installed on the computer. Magnific Desktop prepares, generates, and organizes assets, while editing, compositing, or retouching can continue in the usual software. The synchronized folder serves as the connection between these environments.
Magnific Desktop is now available on macOS and Windows. The app does not change the cloud-based nature of the service, but it reduces several repetitive actions around it. Occasional users may find the browser sufficient. For those producing large numbers of assets and moving them into other applications, folder synchronization is the most substantial addition.
