Leonardo.ai integrates Rodin V2 to generate 3D characters

Leonardo.Ai integrates the Rodin V2 model by Hyper3D to generate exportable 3D characters in .glb format from 2D images or simple text prompts.

Leonardo.Ai adds 3D generation to its platform by integrating the Rodin V2 model, developed by Hyper3D, into a workflow dedicated to character creation. The goal is to go from a 2D character, or a simple description, to an exportable 3D model without leaving the tool or juggling multiple software applications.

The process relies on an in-house blueprint. From an image or a prompt, the tool generates a multi-angle character sheet, up to five consistent views—front, profile, three-quarter, and back—which then serve as references to launch 3D generation with a single click. The result can be inspected in 360 degrees and exported in .glb format, usable in game engines like Unreal or Unity, for rigging or 3D printing.

Several rendering options include: a quadrilateral mesh, suitable for character animation, or a triangular mesh for objects; a customizable polygon count based on need; and realistic PBR materials, stylized versions, or both. The Rodin V2 engine, capable of producing production-ready assets with UVs, textures, and clean topology, does the heavy lifting, while Leonardo provides view consistency and native integration. The feature is accessible from the platform's application.
