Le Robert Editions launch Dis-moi Robert, their AI assistant dedicated to the French language

Éditions Le Robert launched Dis-moi Robert, a free French language AI assistant powered by RAG architecture to query their verified dictionary database.

To mark the sixtieth anniversary of Le Petit Robert, Éditions Le Robert are launching a conversational assistant named Dis-moi Robert, accessible for free at dictionnaire.lerobert.com/assistant, without requiring an account. The tool is presented as an unprecedented initiative in France: an agent dedicated exclusively to the French language, which responds in natural language regarding definitions, spelling, synonyms, conjugation, etymology, anglicisms, neologisms, or grammar questions.

The publisher is not disclosing the name of the underlying language model or any potential technical partner. It emphasizes a retrieval-augmented generation architecture: the generative AI remains strictly constrained and draws solely from Le Robert's online dictionary, which includes approximately 65,000 words, 350,000 definitions and examples, and 35,000 quotations, all of which is internally validated by their in-house linguists. Each answer is sourced, and the agent explicitly indicates if it cannot find the answer to a question.

According to Charles Bimbenet, Director of Éditions Le Robert, this closed scope guarantees a neutral and transparent tool, as opposed to general-purpose systems open to the entire web. Géraldine Moinard, Editorial Director, adds that the tool does not replace the paper dictionary but offers a second way to explore the language, one that is more conversational and compatible with current digital practices. Only anonymous user questions are analyzed for improvement purposes, without collecting personal data.
