[I/O 2026] Google presents Intelligent eyewear running on Android XR

Google unveils Android XR Intelligent eyewear with Samsung, Qualcomm and Gemini, featuring audio and display models integrated with Warby Parker and iOS.

Google is detailing its Intelligent eyewear lineup, expected in the fall and developed on Android XR, its platform designed with Samsung and Qualcomm. Two types will coexist: audio models, which deliver voice assistance to the ear, and display models, which project information into the field of vision. Both emphasize hands-free use and on-demand access to Gemini. The audio glasses will kick things off a little later in the season.

For style, Google is partnering with Samsung and brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker, which will present full collections throughout the year. In use, a "Hey Google" command or a press on the temple activates Gemini. The assistant provides information about what the wearer sees, provides turn-by-turn guidance based on position and orientation, manages calls and messages via near-ear speakers, and translates speech and text in real time, with a voice matched to that of the interlocutor.

Photo and video capture also features voice-controlled editing, entrusted to Nano Banana to erase a background or transform an image. Gemini Intelligence also handles multi-step tasks in the background, such as preparing a coffee order on Doordash that the wearer only needs to confirm. Finally, the glasses connect to third-party applications, from Uber to Mondly, and synchronize with both Android and iOS phones.
