[I/O 2026] Gemini Intelligence integrates Gemini into the core of Android

Google integrates Gemini Intelligence into Android to automate tasks across Chrome, Gboard with Rambler, and custom widgets on Pixel and Samsung devices.

Google introduces Gemini Intelligence as a software layer that makes Android more proactive. It consists of a set of agentic features that enable Gemini to anticipate and execute tasks throughout the day, without the user always having to open a dedicated application.

The rollout is happening in waves: it begins this summer on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models, then gradually expands to all compatible Android devices by the end of the year. This includes Wear OS watches, Android Auto systems in cars, Android XR glasses, and Googlebook laptops.

Key Features Announced Gemini in Chrome: becomes a browsing assistant capable of searching, summarizing, and comparing content on the web. The browser's automatic navigation supports common tasks, such as making appointments or reserving a parking spot. Rambler: a voice input tool integrated into Gboard that converts speech to text while retaining the essence of the message and rephrasing it concisely. It handles language switching within the same sentence. Audio is used only for real-time transcription and is not retained. Create My Widget: allows you to design a custom widget from a natural language description. The generated widget can be resized on the home screen or a Wear OS watch and integrates data from Gmail, Calendar, or other Google services.

The entire system is based on a visual redesign built on Material 3 Expressive, with animations designed to limit visual distractions.
