Generative AI is settling into art schools

An SN Computer Science study of ChatGPT and Midjourney in art schools shows AI boosts creative exploration but requires Human-in-the-Loop pedagogy.

A review published in SN Computer Science analyzes 27 studies (2023–2025) on the integration of ChatGPT or Midjourney in higher arts education. Verdict: AI stimulates creative exploration and empowers beginner students, particularly in music, where gains in fluency are measured. However, a gap persists between rapid ideation and technical execution, still rooted in embodied practice. The study advocates for Human-in-the-Loop pedagogies and true AI literacy, encompassing prompt mastery, ethical frameworks, and system understanding.
