FLUX Outpainting gains a fast mode up to 5x faster
Black Forest Labs speeds up FLUX Outpainting with a fast mode up to 5x faster on its API, designed for quick image extension before high-quality rendering.
Black Forest Labs adds a fast mode to FLUX Outpainting, its image extension tool accessible via API. The developer claims generations up to five times faster than the default mode, designed for iterating on a layout before switching back to high mode for final quality.
As a reminder, FLUX Outpainting extends an image beyond its borders in a single call, filling the added areas with content consistent with the existing scene, without a prompt: the model autonomously continues the lighting and composition. This allows for changing aspect ratios, producing banners, or reformatting a visual for social media. The output canvas remains capped at 4 megapixels.
Both modes share the same request format. The slower high mode aims for the highest fidelity and adherence to the prompt on complex content; the fast mode extends most scenes, landscapes, backgrounds, textures, and products, with a generally less refined rendering in the added area but often at a lower cost.
