[Config 2026] Figma provides more context to its design agent
Figma updates its AI design agent in open beta with custom tools, generative shaders, and integration with GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Atlassian.
Figma's design agent is entering an expanded open beta with three significant additions: custom tool creation, generative shaders, and improved project context awareness.
Designers can now ask the agent to create reusable plugins directly within Figma, without going through a traditional development environment. The same principle applies to shaders, which allow for the generation of adjustable visual effects or fills, such as dither, fractal noise, prismatic effects, or dynamic textures.
The other change relates to context: the agent can leverage attached files, links to other Figma files, web search, and connectors to GitHub, Atlassian, Slack, Notion, or Hex. Figma is also adding Skills, reusable commands that turn frequent prompts into team-shareable workflows.
The objective is no longer merely to generate a screen, but to bring the agent closer to the methods, constraints, and habits of each design team.
