Bria removes the background live in OBS, no green screen

Bria's V-RMBG 3.0 plugin for OBS Studio removes video backgrounds in real time without a green screen, using an autoregressive model to stabilize edges.

Bria brings its video background removal to OBS Studio with a plugin that installs as a native Effect Filter on any camera source. The tool crops the feed in real time, frame by frame, without a green screen or local graphics card: webcam frames are sent to Bria's inference point, returned cropped, and displayed directly in the OBS scene, which requires an active connection. The rendering aims for soft edges rather than sharp masks, so hair and fine details blend cleanly.

The key lies in the model running behind the filter, V-RMBG 3.0. Where previous approaches treated each frame in isolation, leading to flickering outlines on hair, fingers, or fast movements, this model is autoregressive: each frame is calculated from the previous one, which stabilizes the edges throughout the stream. It also recognizes what is part of the shot, keeping a handheld microphone, a desk, or a product shown on screen within the frame.

According to Bria, the model wins in approximately two-thirds of blind comparisons against major competitors and runs up to nine times faster, at 26 frames per second. The plugin is free to install and available on Windows and macOS, with a Bria account created from within the plugin opening a two-week trial period.
