Anthropic lifts Claude's usage limits and signs a compute agreement with SpaceX.

Anthropic doubles Claude Code limits and partners with SpaceX to access its Colossus 1 data center, boosting Claude Pro and Max with 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs.

Anthropic is simultaneously raising the usage limits for Claude Code and the API, and formalizing a partnership with SpaceX which gives it access to the entire computing capacity of the Colossus 1 data center, representing over 300 megawatts and more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs deployable within the month. This resource will primarily power Claude Pro and Claude Max subscriptions.

Regarding limits, the five-hour Claude Code limits double for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans per seat, the reduction applied during peak hours disappears for Pro and Max, and the API rate limits for Opus models are significantly increased.

The contract with SpaceX joins an already substantial series: an agreement with Amazon for up to 5 gigawatts, with nearly 1 GW delivered by the end of 2026, a 5 GW agreement with Google and Broadcom planned for 2027, a partnership with Microsoft and NVIDIA including $30 billion in Azure capacity, and a $50 billion investment in US AI infrastructure with Fluidstack. The publisher also mentions its interest in developing several gigawatts of orbital compute with SpaceX.

The expansion will also take place outside the United States, with Anthropic specifying its aim for democratic jurisdictions with secure supply chains. The agreement with Amazon already provides for new inference capabilities in Asia and Europe.

A small irony of timing: Elon Musk had publicly compared Anthropic's logo to a sphincter. And here he is today leasing his data center to run Claude. The compute race has its priorities; aesthetics can wait.
