An API for media instead of a dozen: Runway Dev

Runway Dev launches a single API for image, video, and audio models like Gen-4.5 and ElevenLabs, simplifying enterprise media workflows and integration.

Runway is adding a developer tier to its offering with Runway Dev, a media platform for technical teams and enterprise use cases. The idea: to bring access to image, video, audio, and character models under a single API, where previously a dozen disparate APIs had to be connected manually.

Regarding models, Runway's in-house models (Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, Act-Two) are alongside third-party models (Seedance, GPT Image 2, ElevenLabs), accessible upon release, interchangeable by modifying a single line of code, and tracked from a unified billing dashboard. Recipes are ready-to-use endpoints that encapsulate Runway's prompting and workflow expertise into a single API call, for tasks such as ad localization, product staging, or multi-shot editing. Workflows allow assembling multiple models, modalities, and steps into a custom pipeline, triggered by a private endpoint and callable at will. Finally, Characters offer real-time interactive avatars with voices, tool calling, and a knowledge base, generated from a photo or created from scratch, and exclusive to Runway Dev.

The enterprise positioning occupies a significant part of the communication: contractual commitment to non-training on customer data, zero-data retention, SOC 2 Type II compliance, intellectual property indemnification, integrated content moderation, and a stated 99.9% uptime. The platform is open now at dev.runwayml.com, with regular additions of new Recipes and an intelligent routing layer in preparation.
