Aleph 2.0 (Runway) adapts a video to all formats by completing the scene.
Runway adds a reformatting feature to its Aleph 2.0 Edit Studio, using generative AI to extend video frames to any aspect ratio without cropping the image.
Runway is adding a reformatting feature to Aleph 2.0, its video editing model: users import an existing video, choose the desired aspect ratio (9:16, 16:9, 1:1, 4:3, 21:9), and the model completes the missing scene to create a shot that appears to have been filmed in that format from the start. Instead of cropping that amputates the image, the tool extends the frame by generating consistent scenery on the sides, without distorting what already exists. The same video can thus be adapted for all feeds without reshooting.
The feature is integrated into Edit Studio, the editing space launched with Aleph 2.0 in May, accessible from the desktop web application. The model remains focused on in-context editing: it transforms a real video while preserving the rest of the sequence, handles multi-shot edits, and is capped at 30 seconds in 1080p. Users can also describe a change via text (object color, weather, background) to retouch only the targeted area, or edit a single reference image whose rendering the model propagates across the entire video.
